Trinidad and Tobago Under-15 cricketers go into the opening match of the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Championships against Guyana starting Tuesday morning at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua.
The Kaiden Pollard-led team will attempt to reclaim the title the Brendan Boodoo’s team won in 2023, going unbeaten in the process.
Head coach Nasir Mohammed said the players, who arrived in Antigua on Sunday are looking forward to the challenge ahead.
“Actually, they can’t wait for tomorrow because they’re kind of eager to get this tournament started,” Mohammed said.
Trinidad and Tobago’s rivalry with Guyana and Barbados seems to filter down to the U-15s as they are focused on two opponents.
“They’re really pumped over Guyana and Barbados right now,” Mohammed said. “That’s the two teams that we have to get over the line with because, the other teams, they (T&T) are kind of confident they can beat them. But the Guyana and the Barbados teams has always been a challenge for us over the years. So, they’re really looking forward to those two games this year.”
Mohammed also heaped praises on captain Pollard, who is following in the footsteps of his father, former West Indies and T&T captain Kieron Pollard.
“He’s actually got the guys here basically under control. At the hotel here, there’s not really much work to do as far as he’s concerned. He’s taking the leadership role pretty good.”
First ball at North Sound is 9.30 am.
