Dancing David to waltz home in the Maiden Stakes over a mile at Newmarket today, opening of the three-day(s) 'Cambridgeshire' fixture and October 1. A real favourite month! It's been 28 days since Dancing David made an encouraging debut over a similar distance at Salisbury, where battle-hardened Raine's Cross justified favouritism with a hard-fought, half-length success from Brian Meehan's charge.
That was extremely promising. Dancing David achieved a time-handicap mark capable of winning an HQ maiden and having been given plenty of time for recovery, should improve further.
This qualifies Dancing David as a real special and he should be backed accordingly. This also applies to once-raced Morana, one of nine decs for the Maiden Stakes over seven furlongs, which also opens a seven-race programme.
Morana doesn't need to improve on his immensely-encouraging, debut run at Sandown last month, when he was beaten two lengths by long odds-on winner, Hot Prospect. Peter Chapple-Hyam rates Morana highly and reckons him group class, without doubt. Think I'll start this month with a solid two-year-old double, Dancing David and Morana, in addition to single bets on both.
