Christmas vibes run high at Scrunter's Pork Dance

The Christmas spirit was in full swing on December 19, when Parang Soca King Scrunter, held his annual Pork Dance at Scrunter's Forest in Sangre Grande. Last year the torrential rain kept many patrons away. This time around, the weather conditions were perfect. From as early as 10 pm patrons filtered into the forest-surrounded venue in anticipation of listening to some of the best live soca parang in the country, as is always a priority with this party.

Eating wild meat is also high on the agenda at the Pork Dance. Agouti, deer, lappe, and iguana were on the menu and they came either curried or stewed. Geera, curry or stew pork was also on the bill of fare. All of the meats could be had, with or without provision, with a full meal costing about $80. Parang Band Nostalgik started the session and evoked a spirit of "alegria" that legendary parang singer Daisy Voisin would be proud of.

The band didn't want for back up rhythm as members of the audience were knocking iron for most of the night. The Pork Dance is known for Scrunter giving away a live pig and the lucky winner was Kurk Christopher. Scrunter came on stage around 2 am and unleashed many of his hits. The party continued until 5 am.
