This year's edition of the T&T International Marathon and Half Marathon, which runs off on January 25, will be dedicated to the late attorney Dana Seetahal who was a participant in many of the UWI marathons.
The T&T Marathon Committee (TTMC) hopes that Seetahal's running legacy will live on through the many women who choose to run the marathon.
The committee is looking forward to the excitement of race day, with Mexican based Kenyans Leah Kigen and Hillary Kipchirchir Kamaiyo returning to defend their women's and men's crowns respectively.
TT $200,000 in prizes will be awarded in this year's event and the committee is inviting corporate T&T to partner with the TTMC to ensure a successful event.
The T&T International Marathon will start at 5 am from St Mary's Junction, Freeport and finish outside Whitehall, Queen's Park West, Port-of-Spain. However, walkers and slower runners will start at 3.30 am. The Half Marathon will start at 5.45 am at ETech Park, Caroni and will also finish outside Whitehall.
The T&T Marathon Committee has acquired the services of active.com to facilitate online registration for the event. To register for the race interested persons can go to http://ttmarathon.com and check the online registration tab. Offline registration will be held at the T&T Olympic Committee (TTOC) office on Abercromby Street, Port-of-Spain, from Monday. The T&T Marathon Committee is happy to partner with the TTOC to realise its dream of ten gold medals by the 2024 Olympics. President of the TTOC Brian Lewis will walk in the marathon to launch the Athlete Welfare and Preparation Fund, with the aim of raising TT$500,000 to help fund T&T athletes towards the Rio 2016 Olympics.
