Former national netballer Burke-Brown passes on

For­mer T&T na­tion­al net­baller An­gela Burke-Browne passed away af­ter los­ing a long bat­tle with can­cer on Tues­day.

Burke-Brown, who made her na­tion­al de­but at age 15 at the West In­dies Cham­pi­onships in St Lu­cia rep­re­sent­ed the Ca­lyp­so Girls team that par­tic­i­pat­ed in three World Net­ball Cham­pi­onships 1971, 1975 and most mem­o­rable in 1979 here in T&T which saw the host vic­to­ri­ous, was 59.

She was award­ed the Cha­co­nia Gold Medal for her ef­forts dur­ing T&T's suc­cess at the 1979 World Cham­pi­onships, as well as be­ing in­duct­ed in­to the Sport Hall of Fame as a mem­ber of the team in 2014.

Burke-Browne rep­re­sent­ed T&T in the long and high jump cat­e­gories at the first Carif­ta Games in Bar­ba­dos.

She al­so played bas­ket­ball as a mem­ber of the na­tion­al team from 1970-1982, cap­tain­ing them in 1975 and was a nom­i­nee for the WIT­CO Sports­woman of the year award for bas­ket­ball for three years straight.
