Lance Murray dies age 91

For­mer na­tion­al crick­eter and foot­baller Lance Mur­ray peace­ful­ly passed away on Sun­day at his West­moor­ings home at the age of 91. Lance's son, for­mer West In­dies wick­et­keep­er Deryck Mur­ray said his fa­ther was bed-rid­den for the past year but was com­fort­able and in his words :"Prob­a­bly his time had come."

Mur­ray was a leg-spin­ner and al­so a cen­tre half on the foot­ball field. He al­so had nu­mer­ous stints in sport­ing ad­min­is­tra­tion as well, and served on the T&T Crick­et Board (TTCB) and the West In­dies Crick­et Board (WICB). For his ef­forts, he was pre­sent­ed with the Cha­co­nia Gold Medal for sport­ing ad­min­is­tra­tion.

He al­so got the Medal of Mer­it (MOM) for pub­lic ser­vice. Lance was the fa­ther of sev­en chil­dren Deryck, Karen, Ronald, Clif­ford, Dawn, Patrice and Solange. His fu­ner­al ser­vice takes place Fri­day at the All Saints Church, Queen's Park Sa­van­nah at noon.
