All Stars crowned 2011 Panorama champions

Neal and Massy Trinidad All Stars picked up their sixth Na­tion­al Panora­ma ti­tle at the Queens Park Sa­van­nah in Port of Spain yes­ter­day. Per­form­ing Its Show­time, which was sung by Anslem Dou­glas the Port of Spain based band, who last won the ti­tle in 2007 se­cured 278 point from the judges.

The band was award­ed $2 mil­lion for their vic­to­ry by Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar and Min­is­ter of Arts and Mul­ti­cul­tur­al­ism Win­ston Gyp­sy Pe­ters who were on hand at the Queens Park Sa­van­nah to present the win­ning steel­bands with the cheques. The arrange­ment for All Stars' ti­tle win­ning song was done by Leon Smooth Ed­wards.

Sec­ond place in the Large Band cat­e­go­ry went to Sagi­cor Ex­o­dus. The band re­ceived $1 mil­lion dol­lars.Third place went to last year's win­ner, PCS Sil­ver Stars. They will take home $750,000.

In the Medi­um Band cat­e­go­ry, Katzen­jam­mers and Val­ley Harps scored 275 points to tie for first place.

Pan Trin­ba­go of­fi­cials hand­ed over a cheque for $75,000 to Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar. The do­na­tion will go to­wards the Chil­dren's Life Fund which was es­tab­lished by the Prime Min­is­ter last year to pro­vide emer­gency med­ical care and surgery for pro­ce­dures which can­not be ac­cessed in Trinidad and To­ba­go. Hailed as the on­ly acoustic in­stru­ment de­vel­oped in the 20th cen­tu­ry, the steel pan is mark­ing its 75th year in 2011.

The re­sults for the Large Band cat­e­go­ry of the Panora­ma com­pe­ti­tion are as fol­lows:

1st: Neal and Massy Trinidad All Stars - 278 points

2nd: Sagi­cor Ex­o­dus - 276 points

3rd: PCS Sil­ver Stars - 275 points

4th: Caribbean Air­lines In­vaders and Petrotrin Phase II Pan Groove (tie) - 273 points

6th: NL­CB Fon­claire: 271 points

7th: Wit­co Des­per­a­does and Petrotrin Siparia Del­tones (tie) 270 points

9th: RBC/RBTT Re­demp­tion Sound Set­ters - 268 points

10th: Star­lift - 265 points

The re­sults for the Medi­um Band cat­e­go­ry of the Panora­ma com­pe­ti­tion are as fol­lows:

1st: Katzen­jam­mers and Val­ley Harps - 275 points

3rd: NL­CB Buc­cooneers - 269 points
