If we’re any bit alike, then your wardrobe is a sea of black, greys, blues and browns with perhaps a light sprinkling of colour here and there. But you’ve probably been trying to convince yourself that more colour should be added to make your outfits exciting. The only problem though is that you don’t have a clue on how to go about doing that. Have no fear, that’s why I’m here. Let’s successfully add some colour to our wardrobes together! Here’s how in 6 easy ways.
1. Shoes
A pop of colour on your feet will neatly bring together any neutral look for a touch of added class and excitement. Shoes can easily make or break an outfit based on how well they complement all the other pieces, so be sure the style of your shoe goes great with the fit. However, be wary that it will obviously draw attention downward in case you forgot give those toes some TLC.
2. A Handbag
In choosing a colourful bag, pick a nice bright colour that goes with most of the clothing you own. That way it’s easy to incorporate it into your outfits whether its date night, a casual day look or just to run some errands. Also, choose a bag for the lifestyle you have — whether you need a tote to be able to carry around a few things for your kids, or, something smaller to fit the essentials like keys, some change and your phone.
3. Switch the Little Black
Dress for another colour
What about cobalt blue? Aquamarine? Maybe peach? Pick one you’re most comfortable with and go with it! You can always use neutral accessories to make you feel more comfortable and you can dress it down or up for daytime to night-time events. Treat it just like you would your LBD, except its not black.
4. Accessories
It’s universally known that accessories add character to an outfit, so why not use it to add that pop you’re looking for. Out of earrings, rings, bracelets, necklaces and watches, there must be at least one of these pieces you enjoy wearing, so buying it in a striking hue shouldn’t be too strange for you.
5. Blouses
Switch out your everyday work blouses for a few brighter ones. Maybe the idea of dressing head-to-toe in a bright colours scares you, so let’s start with a blouse instead. That way you can keep pants/skirts and shoes muted but you get the chance to liven them up with a cute blouse. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even opt for a funky pattern.
6. Nail polish
Not quite ready to overhaul your wardrobe? Then, start with something small like your nails. It’s an easy change and the colours are endless, so you can switch it up often. It’s also the cheapest addition you can make since you can apply it yourself and buy a few to test out over time.
So, which if these ways are you going to use to add that pop of brightness to your daily wear? I’m ecstatic to see! For me, I’ll be starting with shoes, as I recently bought a pair of bright yellow sandals, so we’ll see how this goes!
