The Islamic Home for Children has received a significant boost thanks to a generous donation from Marubeni Power International Inc. The donation comes at a fortuitous time, as the home moves ahead with a series of future-focused initiatives to enhance its self-sufficiency and improve opportunities for the at-risk youth in its community.
The donation of US$8,000, or just over $54,000, was made as part of Marubeni’s ongoing annual commitment to social welfare in T&T, which funds initiatives that support education, child welfare, the elderly, and the environment.
Marubeni executives recently toured the Islamic Home for Children, learning more about its blueprint for the future, including plans to expand agricultural activities and build a trade skills centre on its almost two-acre property in Gasparillo.
“At Marubeni, we believe in investing in the future of the local communities, and that starts with the children,” said Mo Majeed, CEO, Marubeni Power International, Inc and managing director, Caribbean.
“We’re especially honoured to play a part in supporting the excellent work being done at the Islamic Home for Children, during this holy month of Ramadan. This home provides a haven, where the children who are most in need are offered protection and love in a safe and comfortable home.”
“The Marubeni donation has provided us with much needed funds, which will greatly assist in the maintenance of our facilities,” said Donna Ali, President of the Board of the Islamic Home for Children.
“There are several specific building projects that we would like to accomplish soon, including repairs to our perimeter fencing, construction of box drains to the back of the premises and building of a trade skills centre and transition dormitory environment.”
In operation for 36 years, the Islamic Home for Children is a non-profit organisation that provides shelter, holistic care and protection for underprivileged, socially displaced and at-risk youth, housing up to 20 boys and girls.
