T&T’s Chinese community celebrated the Chinese New Year with Temple Fair 2025 at the Anchorage in Chaguaramas last Saturday.

The celebrations, marking the first full moon of 2025, are based on the lunar calendar.

It is the most important holiday in China and is widely celebrated in South Korea, Vietnam, and countries with significant Chinese populations.

The Chinese zodiac calendar is best described as a 12-year cycle represented by different animals: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. 2025 is the year of the Snake.

Cultural activities at the Temple Fair included drumming, songs, the popular dragon and lion dances performed by members of the Chinese Art and Culture Society and dragon boat racing. Chinese cuisine, arts and craft were on sale.
