It is going to be an active season of cultural activities as the 2023 Tobago Heritage Festival begin on July 21 with a gala opening at the Shaw Park Complex. Ms Tobago Heritage Personality and Heritage Calypso Monarch were part of the opening last night.
The Tobago Heritage Festival returned last year, after going virtual the previous two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The festival ends on August 1. On July 22, the Plymouth J’Ouvert and Ole Time Carnival takes place, followed by the Charlotteville Natural Treasures Day on July 24.
Charlotteville’s Natural Treasures Day presents a full day of activities for visitors, including traditions such as the “Washing of the Dead Bed”, King Cocoa (dancing of the cocoa), and dirt oven baking.

On July 25, the YAM Festival, Ole Time Village Market Experience, Junior Miss, and Little Miss Heritage Competition will be held in the village of Goodwood.
On July 26, the village of Pembroke will host the Salaka Feast.
The event recreates an annual thanksgiving festival in celebration of African ancestors for their guidance and favour granted during the past year. Other events this yearare—Les Coteaux Folk Tales and Superstitions (July 27), Rum Shop Lime in Scarborough (July 28), Moriah Tobago Ole Time Wedding (July 29), Tobago Harvest Experience in Speyside (July 30) and the Sea and Pan Festival in Black Rock (July 31).
The Emancipation Day Celebrations, held in Crown Point, concludes the Festival on August 1.
