Getting bread may be a little cheaper as Nutrimix Flour Mills announced yesterday that it will be dropping its prices.

In a press release, Nutrimix said it would be lowering its flour prices with effect from yesterday.

“We recognise the importance of keeping basic food items at minimal and affordable prices. As a leading manufacturer of flour, one of our key priorities is to continuously seek out initiatives to ensure that our products are safely produced and sold at competitive prices,” Nutrimix said.

The release continued, “Effective 3rd July, 2023, Nutrimix Flour Mills will immediately reduce the prices on our range of Country Pride and Nutrimix Premium Grade 2kg and 10kg flour products. This price reduction ranges from 10 per cent to 13 per cent on our two kilogramme (kg) flour and 10 per cent to 12 per cent on our ten kg size. In addition, a price reduction on our entire range of 45kg products is imminent.”

Nutrimix noted, “Globally, wheat prices and shipping costs have decreased, and there has been an improvement in the reliability of the supply chain.”

However, the company said it could not reduce its prices by a greater amount due to increased foreign exchange costs, as well higher insurance, transportation and security costs as well as wages.

The company said,”We have also taken several initiatives to improve the efficiency of our operations and reduce our milling and processing costs.”

Nutrimix raised its prices on June 27, following National Flour Mills’ announcement of its second price increase in the space of six months.

Majority state-owned National Flour Mills raised flour prices in December 2021 and June 2022 respectively, citing supply chain issues prompted by the Russia Ukraine conflict. This led to an increase of several flour-based food items including bread, roti and doubles.
