Teenager Savita “Priya” Pablo, who was reported abducted on Thursday, was rescued by police officers as she was being transported in a car by the suspects along the Valencia Stretch yesterday.

According to police reports, the vehicle which Pablo, 15, was being conveyed in was spotted by some of her relatives around 2.30 pm. Apart from the driver, there were two other occupants inside, including a female who was not Pablo.

The teen’s relatives immediately contacted police and members of the Hunters’ Search and Rescue Team, who had been involved in a search for her since she was grabbed and bundled into a car outside her La Seiva Road, Vega De Oropouche, Sangre Grande home on Thursday.

An All Points Bulletin was sent out by the police, who also set up strategically at areas of entry and exit in and out of Sangre Grande.

Responding officers later engaged in a high-speed chase in pursuit of the suspect’s car, which was eventually intercepted near Pine Avenue.

When police approached the vehicle and ordered the suspects out, they realised Pablo was lying low in the back seat. She was removed by police while the driver, alleged abductor and a female were arrested and taken to the Sangre Grande Police Station.

Priya, who police said was visibly traumatised by her ordeal, was then taken to the Sangre Grande General Hospital for medical observation.

The suspects remained detained at the Sangre Grande station last night.

When Guardian Media visited Pablo’s family at their La Seiva Road home last evening, neighbours were also gathering at the house. They all seemed happy at the news she was safe but admitted to being exhausted by the ordeal.

Relatives said she had just returned from school on Thursday and was sitting outside when a blue vehicle stopped in front he house with the driver, two males and one female inside.

The driver, accompanied by a female, proceeded to where Priya was sitting and relatives then heard a commotion. They said when they looked outside, they saw Priya being forced into the vehicle back seat before the driver sped off. A report was immediately made to the police.

The Pablo family thanked all those involved in the search and rescue of their daughter.

Members of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, led by ASP Ramdass, and members of the Sangre Grande Police Station, led by Insp Kistow, spearheaded the search activities, while PC Ramkhelawan, of Sangre Grande CID, is continuing enquiries.
