As Prime Minister Keith Rowley emerged from COVID-enforced isolation yesterday, one of his Cabinet ministers, Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi entered isolation on Monday after being informed he was a primary contact of a recent COVID-19 positive case.

This was confirmed by the AG’s ministry yesterday afternoon.

But the AG has tested negative for the virus.

Al-Rawi’s ministry yesterday stated that after he was informed he was a primary contact of a recent COVID-19 positive case, in accordance with protocols, he proceeded to be tested for coronavirus via a PCR test on Monday.

This was recommended by the Ministry of Health in the circumstances. The statement said the Attorney General received a negative COVID-19 test result, with the word negative written all in capital letters.

But the ministry added, “Out of an abundance of caution and in compliance with COVID-19 protocols, the Attorney General commenced isolation for 14 days, from Monday.”

Al-Rawi is executing his roles and responsibilities remotely via virtual platforms and other relevant forms of communication, the ministry stated. Al-Rawi, speaking briefly yesterday, said he was in good spirits, adding that he’s continuing his work within isolation.

At this point, it’s not known if Al-Rawi will be out of quarantine in time for the funeral of late Minister Franklin Khan who died recently.

The funeral is expected in a couple of weeks’ time after Khan’s daughter—who arrived from overseas last Thursday—emerges from quarantine.

It’s expected that Prime Minister Rowley, now COVID free, will head the number of Government officials attending the official funeral which is being planned.
