A Barataria man was shot multiple times on Thursday night, after being called out of his house. He was later found dead in a nearby drain.
Police said Shawn Shameer Mohammed was killed over what is believed to be a property dispute.
A close female relative of the self-employed 34-year-old of El Socorro Extension, Barataria, reported hearing loud explosions in the front yard at 11.50 pm.
She told police that she later opened the door to see Mohammed fighting with an armed man, while a second man pointed a gun at her and ordered her back inside.
As the woman moved to close the door, she saw Mohammed running out of the front yard, being pursued by the two suspects.
She contacted the police at 12.10 am and as officers arrived ten minutes later, they found Mohammed partially submerged in a drain on the eastern side of the road. He was dead and in a crouched position. His body bore multiple injuries.
Police said a total of 26 spent shell casings of varying calibre were recovered at the scene.
