A Barataria man was shot mul­ti­ple times on Thurs­day night, af­ter be­ing called out of his house. He was lat­er found dead in a near­by drain.

Po­lice said Shawn Shameer Mo­hammed was killed over what is be­lieved to be a prop­er­ty dis­pute.

A close fe­male rel­a­tive of the self-em­ployed 34-year-old of El So­cor­ro Ex­ten­sion, Barataria, re­port­ed hear­ing loud ex­plo­sions in the front yard at 11.50 pm.

She told po­lice that she lat­er opened the door to see Mo­hammed fight­ing with an armed man, while a sec­ond man point­ed a gun at her and or­dered her back in­side.

As the woman moved to close the door, she saw Mo­hammed run­ning out of the front yard, be­ing pur­sued by the two sus­pects.

She con­tact­ed the po­lice at 12.10 am and as of­fi­cers ar­rived ten min­utes lat­er, they found Mo­hammed par­tial­ly sub­merged in a drain on the east­ern side of the road. He was dead and in a crouched po­si­tion. His body bore mul­ti­ple in­juries.

Po­lice said a to­tal of 26 spent shell cas­ings of vary­ing cal­i­bre were re­cov­ered at the scene.
