The funeral of soca artiste Dexter “Blaxx” Stewart will take place at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain, at 10 am next Wednesday (April 6).

The “final celebration” for Stewart, 60, who passed away at the Arima District Hospital on Monday due to complications related to COVID-19, was announced by his family and friends in a release issued yesterday.

In the release, his family sought to thank the doctors and nurses at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, St Augustine Private Hospital and the Arima Hospital, who provided “utmost” care to him before his death.

“His loved ones would like to take this opportunity to openly say “thank you” to everyone who have given freely of themselves during the last few months of Dexter’s time with them—Giselle Gellineau-Penrose, Tricia Harripaul, Richard Gordan, Kevin Stephen, Carlysle Roberts, Deon Joseph, Adana Joseph and Sweelan Gerald-Reece,” it said.

The release noted that Stewart had been an icon in the soca industry for over three decades and was a beloved father, brother and uncle.

“He was an impeccable entertainer with passion and energy, who gave of himself effortlessly to enrich and improve the lives of others,” it said.

It said that his greatest loves were his children, relatives and entertaining.

“Their hearts are saddened but they know that he’s now in perfect peace. They cherish all the wonderful moments with him and feel blessed to have experienced his extraordinary gift,” it said.

The release advised members of the public who wish to support in any way in the celebration to contact Richard Gordan at gordonrichard868@gmail.com or 684-4528.
