Police officers from the Point Fortin Police Station are searching for a gunman who shot a Chinese national at her restaurant in Fanny Village, Point Fortin, on Thursday.
Investigators said Qiling Zhen, 40, the proprietress of Hua Yuan Chinese Restaurant on G Street in Fanny Village was in her business place when the gunman opened fire at close range around 5 pm.
Zhen’s husband Jiansen Feng told police he was working in the kitchen when he heard the loud explosion. When he rushed out, he found his wife lying behind the reception area, bleeding from her back. Feng, with the help of a relative, immediately transported Zhen to the Point Fortin Hospital.
Witnesses told investigators the suspect walked into the restaurant and fired one shot in Zhen’s direction before fleeing the scene. Crime Scene Investigators, including PC Francis, processed the scene and recovered a 9mm shell and a projectile.
Zhen was later transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery for an intra-abdominal injury. Police said the area was canvassed for CCTV footage. PC Maharaj is continuing investigations.
Cannabis seized
Police have arrested one man in connection with the discovery of cannabis in Toco, while officers discovered more of the illegal drug hidden under a sheet of galvanize.
In a news release yesterday, the TTPS said on September 19 between 1 pm and 7 pm, officers of the Eastern Division Gang and Intelligence Unit and the Special Investigations Unit conducted a sting operation after surveillance and reconnaissance in the Sangre Grande district.
Officers went to the corner of Toco Main Road and Valencia Old Road, where they intercepted a vehicle driven by a 31-year-old man from Brazil Village, Arima.
Police searched the vehicle where they found 10 large black plastic-covered packages. Each package contained a quantity of cannabis weighing a total of 220 kilogrammes.
The exhibit and the suspect were taken to the Sangre Grande Police Station for further processing.
In another incident, in Tobago officers conducted a joint patrol exercise at the Shirvan Road, Crown Point and Scarborough districts. During the exercise, officers went to the Riceland Trace area where they discovered a bag with cannabis weighing 40.43 grammes under some sheets of galvanize.
