Three family members, two of whom were women, were shot and killed execution-style in El Socorro yesterday evening after gunmen entered their Oudan Trace home.
Grandmother Kumarie Kowlessar-Timal, 76, her daughter Radeshka Timal-David, 48 and her grandson Zachary David, 20, were made to sit alongside each other on the couch in their living room and each was shot once in the back of their heads.
Timal-David was as an Executive Administrative Assistant at ANSA Motors’ Commercial Division.
Police said that around 5.30 pm residents heard loud explosions coming from the two-storey house.
One resident told Guardian Media, “That is a common thing around here so we didn’t pay attention at first.”
However, after an alarm was raised, checks were made and the three were found slumped on the couch.
The front door to the two-storey house which was usually open until the family locked up at night, remained open after the gunmen exited the property.
It is believed that a male relative, aged 25, who only arrived from Canada yesterday, alerted police and identified the deceased shortly after the shootings.
He was said to be in a bathroom at the time of the shootings.
Speaking with Guardian Media last night, an emotional Anushka Timal-De Gannes said her relatives “did not deserve this.”
She agreed with neighbours who described the family as, “quiet people who kept to themselves.”
Although she was able to assist officers at the scene, Timal-De Gannes was not allowed to enter the property to view the bodies which had not been removed up to 10 o’clock last night.
Anushka Timal-De Gannes, daughter of murder victim Kumarie Kowlessar-Timal, and her husband leave the murder scene at Oudan Trace, El Socorro, last night.
ANISTO ALVES
Timal-David was the mother of two boys.
The family property contains two rental apartments downstairs, and relatives of one of the occupants expressed concern that they had not been allowed to enter to check on the elderly woman who was in one of the apartments, for several hours.
However, following the departure of the District Medical Officer and the collection of forensic evidence the woman was allowed to leave the property.
Although curious residents lined the street to look on, the 9 pm curfew put paid to this as all were reminded that they had to be inside their houses.
Residents on both sides of the street only had good things to say about the deceased.
One man said, “They living here more than 35 years now, they grew up here and they have always been quiet people…very respectable.”
A woman added, “The mother is very nice, they does rarely be outside and we does only see them leaving to go out and come back…they don’t meddle with anyone.”
Fearful after the murders occurred, some of the residents questioned why and expressed concerns that gunmen could return as no valuables or money were reportedly taken from the house.
Last evening’s triple murder follows the double murder of a mother and daughter from Claxton Bay on September 17.
In that incident, it is believed that a family dispute is what led to the executions of Savitri Sooklal, 60 and her daughter Arianna Sandeepa Balgobin, 21 of Soledad Road.
Balgobin had been found dead on a couch in the living room, while her mother was found near the washroom.
The two had also been shot once in the head.
Investigations are continuing into both incidents.
