Keen ob­ser­va­tion by of­fi­cers of the Debe High­way Pa­trol and High­way Pa­trol Task Force re­sult­ed in the ar­rest of four rob­bery sus­pects, the seizure of two firearms and the re­cov­ery of stolen items, last night.

Guardian Me­dia un­der­stands the sus­pects are ex­pect­ed to be placed on iden­ti­fi­ca­tion pa­rades in re­la­tion to sev­er­al rob­beries.

In­quiries have re­vealed that the sus­pects and the re­cov­ered items fit­ted the de­scrip­tion of a re­port of rob­bery ear­li­er on Thurs­day, June 9, at BW Im­ports Ltd at Pa­pourie Road, Di­a­mond Vil­lage, San Fer­nan­do. 

Re­ports are at around 10:20 pm on Thurs­day, the of­fi­cers were on a joint ex­er­cise along the south­bound lane of the Solomon Ho­choy High­way near Debe when the dri­ver of a light blue Nis­san Almera, which was head­ing in their di­rec­tion, arose their sus­pi­cion. 

The of­fi­cers then saw three ob­jects be­ing thrown out of the left rear win­dow of the car in­to the near­by bush­es.  The of­fi­cers pre­vent­ed the car from mov­ing, ap­proached and or­dered the four oc­cu­pants to ex­it the ve­hi­cle.

Up­on search­ing the bush­es, the of­fi­cers found a blue lunch bag con­tain­ing TT $979 and a white bag with an AK47 and a re­volver loaded with 18 rounds of 7.62 am­mu­ni­tion and six rounds of .38 am­mu­ni­tion. In ad­di­tion, the of­fi­cers al­so seized a black plas­tic bag con­tain­ing a quan­ti­ty of au­to elec­tron­ics and ac­ces­sories, in­clud­ing five cel­lu­lar phones and eight packs of cig­a­rettes.  A cut­lass was found in the car and al­so seized.

The of­fi­cers then searched the men and found a large sum of mon­ey on their per­sons—in­clud­ing TT $12754, $US 29 cur­ren­cy, $50 Suri­name cur­ren­cy and $20 Venezue­lan cur­ren­cy.   

The of­fi­cers ar­rest­ed the men and took them to the po­lice sta­tion. 

The of­fi­cers sub­se­quent­ly ex­e­cut­ed search war­rants at the homes of the sus­pects, a 20-someth­ng year old labour­er of Point Lisas, a 33-year-old fish­er­man of Pe­nal, a 43-year-old equip­ment op­er­a­tor of Bar­rack­pore, and a 31-year-old labour­er of Di­a­mond Vil­lage, San Fer­nan­do.  How­ev­er, noth­ing il­le­gal was dis­cov­ered at those res­i­dences. 

Su­per­vis­ing the ex­er­cise and search­es were In­sp Cadette, Ag Sgt Jairaj, Cpl Ma­haraj, Ag Cpl Lul­cool and Ag Cpl Dhanasar.
