One man has been con­firmed dead and two oth­er peo­ple es­caped se­ri­ous in­juries af­ter a car crashed in­to a wall and split in two along the Man­zanil­la Stretch on Sat­ur­day evening.

De­tails were sketchy up to press time and po­lice of­fi­cers said they were un­able to give the iden­ti­ties of the vic­tim and two oth­er oc­cu­pants who were with him.

Ac­cord­ing to eye­wit­ness ac­counts, the ac­ci­dent oc­curred along Man­zanil­la Road just be­fore 4 pm when a Lancer mo­tor ve­hi­cle slammed in­to a wall.

“The dri­ver died and there was a young girl in the front who es­caped un­scathed. The young boy in the back of the Lancer was se­ri­ous­ly in­jured. It looked like he had a bro­ken leg,” a wit­ness told Guardian Me­dia.

An am­bu­lance was called but it took some time be­fore para­medics ar­rived.

“Thank­ful­ly the boy in the back was alive but he was drift­ing in and out of con­scious­ness. The girl was just study­ing about what hap­pened to her friends,” the wit­ness said.

A med­ical doc­tor who was pass­ing by, stopped when he saw the ac­ci­dent and ren­dered med­ical aid to the sur­vivors.

A po­lice of­fi­cer from the Man­zanil­la sta­tion said they are still try­ing to de­ter­mine the cause of the ac­ci­dent and in­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
