Po­lice are search­ing for a gun­man who opened fire on a Ste Madeleine man, shoot­ing him in the chest on New Year’s Day.

Po­lice said around 6:15 pm, the vic­tim Christo­pher Kevin Charles, 36, of Man­a­ham­bre Road, Ste Madeleine, was lim­ing along­side Cor­quette Street, Ste Madeleine when a gold Nis­san Almera pro­ceed­ing west along Man­a­ham­bre Road, turned in a souther­ly di­rec­tion on­to Cor­quette Stree. A man sit­ting in the left rear pas­sen­ger seat point­ed a gun at Charles and fired one shot at close range.

It struck him on the right side of his chest. Charles was rushed to hos­pi­tal where he is now rest­ing in a sta­ble con­di­tion. A team of of­fi­cers led by W/Cpl Suther­land from the Ste Madeleine CID vis­it­ed the scene and in­ter­viewed sev­er­al per­sons. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
