The niece of Mandeville, Jamaica Mayor Donovan Mitchell went missing in T&T over the weekend, and he has joined the family’s call for locals to come forward with any information on her whereabouts.
In an interview with Guardian Media yesterday, Mitchell said Jamaica-born Kimalee Larmont John’s home on the island is next to his and the family is distraught.
“Right now, the entire family is hurting. People are crying every day and as the days go by, (it) becomes a little bit more tense because the survival rate for a missing person...diminishes as the moments fly,” he said.
“We’re making that appeal to...anybody who knows anything to talk to the police (if) anybody knows of her whereabouts.”
Kimalee’s sister, Shinelle Stewart, who lives in the United Kingdom, said she frequently speaks with her. She said the family did not receive any ransom demand but noted it was out of character for her to simply disappear.
“I’ve heard a few stories here and there (with) people saying that she might have run off...as her sister, I speak to her...if not every day, at least once a week, that’s not in her character,” she said.
“She’s got goals, she had things that she was working on and she was persistent with her goals so she would never, ever, ever, just run off. Especially working so hard.”
It’s a belief the Jamaican Mayor also shared. He said John visited Jamaica earlier this year and was expected to visit again at the end of December.
Mitchell thanked the Caribbean Association of Local Government Authorities, the Jamaican High Commissioner to T&T and other diplomatic entities for their assistance to the family so far.
Apart from her husband, Stewart said John had no other relatives in T&T.
John works as a security officer at a warehouse complex on Mission Road, Freeport, for the company Umbrella Security.
According to reports, she left her home at Orange Field Road, Chase Village, at about 5.40 am on Saturday to embark on a five-minute walk to the St Mary’s junction to be picked up by a company vehicle to go to work. Despite contacting the driver to indicate she was on her way, she never showed up.
The TTPS said a report was made by her husband on Sunday and the investigator, assisted by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, has recorded statements and interviewed several people. The police said useful information has been obtained and the investigation is continuing.
Anyone with information on her whereabouts can contact their nearest police station or the Hunters Search and Rescue Team at 475-4350 or 320-1167.
