Nine people have been arrested, a quantity of illicit drugs seized and a stolen vehicle recovered during anti-crime exercises in the Central Division.
In a media release the TTPS said that around 8 pm yesterday, while on mobile patrol, officers observed a 24-year-old priority offender of Rainbow Crescent standing on the roadway along with other people.
The Police Service said PC Nancoo then conducted a physical search of the suspect and reportedly found 34 grams of cocaine in his right rear pants pocket.
The officers took possession of the cocaine and the suspect was arrested and taken to the Chaguanas Police Station.
Additionally, officers of the Central Division Task Force, Area South conducted searches on several drug blocks in the Couva and Freeport Police Districts.
The officers arrested a 22-year-old man of Enterprise, Chaguanas for allegedly being in possession of 90 grams of marijuana, while a 32-year-old man of Claxton Bay was arrested for driving without a valid driver’s permit and driving without a valid certificate of insurance.
The TTPS said during an extensive warrant exercise, officers received information and then proceeded to Lamont Street, Longdenville, where a blue Subaru Impreza was seen parked along the street.
Further checks revealed that the vehicle was allegedly stolen from the Carlsen Field area on Tuesday 18th June 2024.
The vehicle was wrecked and conveyed to Chaguanas Police Station.
Also, around 8 pm yesterday, officers were proceeding in an easterly direction along Rainbow Crescent, Enterprise when they observed a group of men, several sitting and others standing on the said roadway. The officers further observed them playing a game of cards with several Trinidad and Tobago currency notes of different denominations seen on the roadway near them, and also in their hands. All six suspects from Enterprise, Chaguanas, ages 18, 24, 25, 32 and 49 were arrested for illegal gambling.
Investigations are ongoing.
