TRINIDAD, TOBAGO AND THE WINDWARD ISLANDS
Fair to partly cloudy conditions, with scattered showers. Medium (40%) chance of the heavier shower or thunderstorm. Cloudy night with showers over broad areas and the high (80%) chance of frequent thunderstorm activity, associated with Hurricane Beryl. Gusty winds and street/flash flooding are likely near heavy showers or thunderstorms.
***Tropical Storm Warning #4 – ORANGE LEVEL is in effect for Tobago.
Tobago is presently under a Tropical Storm Warning. This means there is a higher potential for tropical storm conditions, including sustained winds of 63-118 km/h, within the watch area, within the next 30 hours.
As of 5 am today, Hurricane Beryl was located near 10.7°N 53.1°W, approximately 828km E of Tobago, moving westward near 33 km/h. As Beryl approaches the southern Windwards on Monday, there is a medium chance (45-55%) of tropical storm force winds impacting Tobago. Heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely from Monday, and sea conditions can become choppy and rough. The next update will be at 8 am today (Sunday 30th June 2024) or earlier if necessary.
Prepare for the possibility of tropical storm conditions. Have systems in place to protect lives, livelihood, and property. Secure loose outdoor objects and livestock. Marine interests should exercise extra caution. Monitor official news sources and weather updates from www.metoffice.gov.tt. Follow instructions of government officials.
***Update on Hurricane Beryl.
At 5 am this morning, Beryl was located near 10.7ºN latitude 53.1ºW longitude, approximately 828km E of Tobago.
Beryl is moving towards the west near 33km/h. A quick westward to west-north-westward motion is expected during the next few days. On the forecast track, the system is expected to move across the Windward Islands early on Monday.
Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 155 km/h with higher gusts. Rapid strengthening is forecast over the next day or so and Beryl is expected to become a dangerous hurricane before it reaches the Windward Islands. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 km from the centre and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 130 km.
Tobago is presently under a Tropical Storm Warning. This means there is a higher potential for tropical storm conditions, including sustained winds of 63-118 km/h, within the warning area, within the next 30 hours. A Hurricane Warning is also in effect for Grenada and its dependencies. At this time, the system poses no direct threat to Trinidad, as the probability for Tropical Storm conditions is low (5-15%).
The initial outlook for Trinidad and Tobago is for cloudy skies with showers and a medium to high chance of heavy showers/thunderstorm activity by Monday 1st July 2024. Sea conditions are expected to become choppy and occasionally rough from early Monday morning, as Beryl moves across the Windward Islands.
A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the following islands: Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada and its dependencies.
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the following islands: Tobago and Martinique.
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Dominica.
