TRINIDAD, TO­BA­GO AND THE WIND­WARD IS­LANDS

Fair to part­ly cloudy con­di­tions, with scat­tered show­ers.  Medi­um (40%) chance of the heav­ier show­er or thun­der­storm. Cloudy night with show­ers over broad ar­eas and the high (80%) chance of fre­quent thun­der­storm ac­tiv­i­ty, as­so­ci­at­ed with Hur­ri­cane Beryl. Gusty winds and street/flash flood­ing are like­ly near heavy show­ers or thun­der­storms.

To­ba­go is present­ly un­der a Trop­i­cal Storm Warn­ing. This means there is a high­er po­ten­tial for trop­i­cal storm con­di­tions, in­clud­ing sus­tained winds of 63-118 km/h, with­in the watch area, with­in the next 30 hours.

As of 5 am to­day, Hur­ri­cane Beryl was lo­cat­ed near 10.7°N 53.1°W, ap­prox­i­mate­ly 828km E of To­ba­go, mov­ing west­ward near 33 km/h. As Beryl ap­proach­es the south­ern Wind­wards on Mon­day, there is a medi­um chance (45-55%) of trop­i­cal storm force winds im­pact­ing To­ba­go. Heavy show­ers and thun­der­storms are like­ly from Mon­day, and sea con­di­tions can be­come chop­py and rough. The next up­date will be at 8 am to­day (Sun­day 30th June 2024) or ear­li­er if nec­es­sary.

Pre­pare for the pos­si­bil­i­ty of trop­i­cal storm con­di­tions. Have sys­tems in place to pro­tect lives, liveli­hood, and prop­er­ty. Se­cure loose out­door ob­jects and live­stock. ***Up­date on Hur­ri­cane Beryl.

At 5 am this morn­ing, Beryl was lo­cat­ed near 10.7ºN lat­i­tude 53.1ºW lon­gi­tude, ap­prox­i­mate­ly 828km E of To­ba­go.

Beryl is mov­ing to­wards the west near 33km/h. A quick west­ward to west-north-west­ward mo­tion is ex­pect­ed dur­ing the next few days.  On the fore­cast track, the sys­tem is ex­pect­ed to move across the Wind­ward Is­lands ear­ly on Mon­day.

Max­i­mum sus­tained winds have in­creased to near 155 km/h with high­er gusts. Rapid strength­en­ing is fore­cast over the next day or so and Beryl is ex­pect­ed to be­come a dan­ger­ous hur­ri­cane be­fore it reach­es the Wind­ward Is­lands.  Hur­ri­cane-force winds ex­tend out­ward up to 30 km from the cen­tre and trop­i­cal-storm-force winds ex­tend out­ward up to 130 km.

To­ba­go is present­ly un­der a Trop­i­cal Storm Warn­ing. This means there is a high­er po­ten­tial for trop­i­cal storm con­di­tions, in­clud­ing sus­tained winds of 63-118 km/h, with­in the warn­ing area, with­in the next 30 hours.  A Hur­ri­cane Warn­ing is al­so in ef­fect for Grena­da and its de­pen­den­cies. At this time, the sys­tem pos­es no di­rect threat to Trinidad, as the prob­a­bil­i­ty for Trop­i­cal Storm con­di­tions is low (5-15%).

The ini­tial out­look for Trinidad and To­ba­go is for cloudy skies with show­ers and a medi­um to high chance of heavy show­ers/thun­der­storm ac­tiv­i­ty by Mon­day 1st Ju­ly 2024. Sea con­di­tions are ex­pect­ed to be­come chop­py and oc­ca­sion­al­ly rough from ear­ly Mon­day morn­ing, as Beryl moves across the Wind­ward Is­lands.

A Hur­ri­cane Warn­ing is in ef­fect for the fol­low­ing is­lands: Bar­ba­dos, St. Lu­cia, St. Vin­cent and the Grenadines and Grena­da and its de­pen­den­cies.

A Trop­i­cal Storm Warn­ing is in ef­fect for the fol­low­ing is­lands: To­ba­go and Mar­tinique.

A Trop­i­cal Storm Watch is in ef­fect for Do­mini­ca.
