A storeroom at the ANR Robinson International Airport site along Store Bay Local Road was broken into between Friday evening and Saturday morning.
The thief/thieves stole several tools and electrical wires worth over TT$24,000.
The victim, Tony J. Rostant, a 41-year-old senior project manager at Electro Masters, reported the incident to the Crown Point police.
PC Ferguson is investigating the case.
The ANR Robinson International Airport is currently undergoing a significant expansion. The project, costing over $1.2 billion, aims to triple the airport’s capacity to accommodate up to three million passengers each year.
Initially expected to be completed by this month, the construction has faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other factors. As of December 2024, the project was about 91 per cent complete, with the new target completion date set for the end of the first quarter of this year.
The expansion includes a new terminal building with modern amenities, larger retail spaces, and enhanced security features. Once finished, it is anticipated to significantly boost Tobago’s tourism sector.
Speaking to the media yesterday during a break in the People’s National Movement parliamentary retreat at the Magdalena Grand Hotel, Finance Minister Colm Imbert said he’s amazed by the project.
“It’s huge, it’s one of the biggest airports in the Caribbean and I’m surprised by the quality of the work and spaces available. In some cases, it’s better than Piarco,” Imbert said.
He said the media will be invited to tour the project next month.
