A patient has been shot dead on Ward Three of the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.
Reports indicate that around 9 pm, two men dressed in hospital gear, walked into the ward and fired around 10 shots at a patient.
The deceased has been identified as Dejean Broker, 25, of Hillview, Laventille.
He died on the spot.
The following is a police statement on the killing:
"The Port-of-Spain General Hospital has been secured by the Police Service, which is also at this time actively investigating the circumstances surrounding a shooting incident, which occurred at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital around 8:45 pm tonight, Tuesday, November 26th, 2019.
25 year-old Dejean Broker, of Hill View Laventille, was warded at the hospital, nursing stab wounds he received from an incident which occurred on Monday, 25th November 2019, in the Western Division.
Police have been informed that two men dressed as hospital workers entered the ward and shot the deceased.
TTPS wishes to advise that there will be a continued police presence at the hospital for the next few days. Investigations remain very active."
The following is an NWRHA statement on the shooting:
"The North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA) wishes to advise that a male patient was shot and killed on ward 3 of the Port of Spain General Hospital, shortly before 9:00 pm tonight, Tuesday 26th November, 2019.
Members of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) are currently on the scene investigating this incident.
The NWRHA has taken immediate steps to augment security services at the hospital and will be meeting with members of the Trinidad and Tobago Registered Nurses Association tomorrow at 10:00 am to collectively discuss and ascertain measures to improve the safety and security of our staff.
Counselling Services will be extended to all employees and patients affected by this incident.
The NWRHA remains committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all our employees, patients and persons visiting our institutions."
