A pa­tient has been shot dead on Ward Three of the Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal.

Re­ports in­di­cate that around 9 pm, two men dressed in hos­pi­tal gear, walked in­to the ward and fired around 10 shots at a pa­tient.

The de­ceased has been iden­ti­fied as De­jean Bro­ker, 25, of Hillview, Laven­tille.

He died on the spot.

The fol­low­ing is a po­lice state­ment on the killing:

"The Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal has been se­cured by the Po­lice Ser­vice, which is al­so at this time ac­tive­ly in­ves­ti­gat­ing the cir­cum­stances sur­round­ing a shoot­ing in­ci­dent, which oc­curred at the Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal around 8:45 pm tonight, Tues­day, No­vem­ber 26th, 2019.

25 year-old De­jean Bro­ker, of Hill View Laven­tille, was ward­ed at the hos­pi­tal, nurs­ing stab wounds he re­ceived from an in­ci­dent which oc­curred on Mon­day, 25th No­vem­ber 2019, in the West­ern Di­vi­sion.

Po­lice have been in­formed that two men dressed as hos­pi­tal work­ers en­tered the ward and shot the de­ceased.

TTPS wish­es to ad­vise that there will be a con­tin­ued po­lice pres­ence at the hos­pi­tal for the next few days. In­ves­ti­ga­tions re­main very ac­tive."

The fol­low­ing is an NWRHA state­ment on the shoot­ing:

"The North West Re­gion­al Health Au­thor­i­ty (NWRHA) wish­es to ad­vise that a male pa­tient was shot and killed on ward 3 of the Port of Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal, short­ly be­fore 9:00 pm tonight, Tues­day 26th No­vem­ber, 2019.

Mem­bers of the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS) are cur­rent­ly on the scene in­ves­ti­gat­ing this in­ci­dent.

The NWRHA has tak­en im­me­di­ate steps to aug­ment se­cu­ri­ty ser­vices at the hos­pi­tal and will be meet­ing with mem­bers of the Trinidad and To­ba­go Reg­is­tered Nurs­es As­so­ci­a­tion to­mor­row at 10:00 am to col­lec­tive­ly dis­cuss and as­cer­tain mea­sures to im­prove the safe­ty and se­cu­ri­ty of our staff.

Coun­selling Ser­vices will be ex­tend­ed to all em­ploy­ees and pa­tients af­fect­ed by this in­ci­dent.
