Pedestrian killed after vehicles collide

Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing a ve­hic­u­lar ac­ci­dent in Guayaguare in which a 72-year-old pedes­tri­an was killed af­ter two ve­hi­cles col­lid­ed on Sat­ur­day.

Pe­ter David, 72, of Food Crop Road, La Brea Vil­lage, died at the Ma­yaro Dis­trict Fa­cil­i­ty af­ter the im­pact threw him 11 feet away from where he was stand­ing.

A po­lice re­port stat­ed that around 3 pm, a 25-year-old woman was dri­ving south in a black Toy­ota Hilux pick­up along the Guayagua­yare Road, La Brea Vil­lage. As she neared Food Crop Road, she at­tempt­ed to over­take a Kia K2700 truck. The truck si­mul­ta­ne­ous­ly at­tempt­ed to turn right and both ve­hi­cles col­lid­ed.

The truck dri­ver lost con­trol of the ve­hi­cle, which struck David, who was stand­ing at the side of the road.

First re­spon­ders took both dri­vers to get med­ical at­ten­tion at the health fa­cil­i­ty. 

Dis­trict Med­ical Of­fi­cer Dr Ku­ra­p­ati viewed David’s body and or­dered its re­moval. The body was tak­en to Boodoo’s Fu­ner­al Home, Rio Claro, as there was re­port­ed­ly no avail­able space at the San­gre Grande Hos­pi­tal Mor­tu­ary. An au­top­sy is ex­pect­ed at the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre, St James, to­mor­row.

Pleas­antville man drowns

in Ba­lan­dra

A Pleas­antville man drowned at Ba­lan­dra Beach on Sat­ur­day. A re­port stat­ed that Ithiel Ar­naud, 27, of Or­chid Gar­dens, was on an ex­cur­sion with his fam­i­ly.

While bathing on the beach about 25 me­tres off­shore around 3.20 pm, he be­gan ex­pe­ri­enc­ing dif­fi­cul­ties and be­gan shout­ing for as­sis­tance. As he went un­der­wa­ter, sev­er­al peo­ple ran to­wards him and brought him back to shore. How­ev­er, he was un­re­spon­sive. 

De­spite nu­mer­ous at­tempts to re­sus­ci­tate Ar­naud, he nev­er re­gained con­scious­ness and was pro­nounced dead by med­ical per­son­nel. (Kevon Felmine)
