Rel­a­tives of Siparia pen­sion­er Michael Kel­ly yes­ter­day ex­pressed shock and grief at the shoot­ing death of the 66-year-old man who was found slumped in a so­fa at his Queen Street, Quinam Road, home with a bul­let wound to his fore­head.

Michael Kel­ly Jr said he last saw his fa­ther at home around 8 pm on Fri­day.

“Yes­ter­day I come home from work and me and my sis­ters we en­joy some pelau my fa­ther cooked. He say, ‘Son, I know you go­ing in the gar­den to­mor­row,’ and he give me two tins of mack­er­el and $20 and I left and went home. We does usu­al­ly have this kind of thing, he does cook. He is a car­ing per­son, he would make soup every Sat­ur­day,” Kel­ly Jr said.

Markel­la Kel­ly be­lieves her fa­ther was killed by some­one known to him. She said she spent the day with him but found noth­ing sus­pi­cious when she vis­it­ed him. Markel­la, who lives next door to her par­ents, said her moth­er, who has men­tal health prob­lems, was at home when her fa­ther was killed.

“I heard when it hap­pened, I was home with my chil­dren and I heard a loud ex­plo­sion but my son said he was still hun­gry and he go­ing by Grand­pa for some more food. He came back home and told me some­thing hap­pen to Grand­pa, he un­re­spon­sive,” she re­called.

“When I went and check he was un­re­spon­sive, sit­ting up­ward with a gun­shot to his head and blood drip­ping. The per­son who did this know him and my fa­ther knew the per­son be­cause the dog didn’t bark and my aunt said she was talk­ing to him when it hap­pen. She say she hear him say­ing ‘Wah hap­pen boy, wah hap­pen boy’ and the phone cut off.”

She said her fa­ther, a for­mer em­ploy­ee with the Wa­ter and Sew­er­age Au­thor­i­ty on Cir­cu­lar Road, San Fer­nan­do, re­tired as a crafts­man III.

A po­lice re­port said around 9.15 pm, Michelle Kel­ly made a re­port at the Siparia Po­lice Sta­tion that she and her boyfriend Shivy Fran­cois heard a loud ex­plo­sion and on check­ing found the pen­sion­er un­re­spon­sive sit­ting in a chair at his home with gun­shot in­juries to his head. The Siparia Po­lice are con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
