The TTPS says rapid and effective police action by the Central Divisional Task Force resulted in multiple arrests and significant seizures early this morning.
In a media release today the TTPS said at approximately 4:00 am, officers responded to an urgent broadcast from the South Western Division about a high-value vehicle theft.
The victim, driving a Nissan Navarra valued at $390,000, was forcibly stopped and assaulted by two armed men who stole his vehicle. However, with swift action and GPS tracking, Tactical Air Support officers located the stolen vehicle on the northbound lane of the highway near Caroni.
The two suspects apprehended were an 18-year-old male from Gerald Street, New Village, Point Fortin and a 32-year-old male from Andrews Drive, Labrea.
Both suspects and the recovered vehicle were taken to the Freeport Police Station.
PC Maharaj is continuing the investigation.
The TTPS added that in a separate operation, a roving road check in the Sangre Grande District between 7:00 pm and 10:00 pm led to the arrest of a 28-year-old male from Sycamore Drive, Sangre Grande. During the check, officers seized a firearm, ammunition and 1,027 grams of marijuana.
This operation was coordinated by W/Snr. Supt. Guy-Alleyne and Sgt. Bhim, with supervision by Cpl. Singh and the E.D.T.F. team.
