Thirty-three-year-old Clint Bhagwandeen had an argument with a man shortly before he was gunned down at a bar in San Fernando on Saturday night. Bhagwandeen of Olera Heights, San Fernando, died at one of his regular liming spots, D Up Lo Lounge, Coffee Street, San Fernando. He would have celebrated his 34th birthday in two weeks.
Police were told that Bhagwandeen was liming at the bar when he had an argument with a man who subsequently left, but threatened that he would return to “shoot up the Coffee.” Bhagwandeen did not pay the threat much attention and remained at the bar. Sometime later around 9.40 pm, he was liming at the outside sitting area of the bar when he was shot several times.
Nearby persons scampered for safety while the gunman ran off.
No one else was shot. The bar is located very close to the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Office on Coffee Street. Guardian Media visited his Housing Development Corporation apartment building at Olera Heights, but no one was there. Tenants said he lived alone. Police said he was charged previously for possession of a firearm and ammunition. Visiting the scene was a party of officers led by Snr Supt Wayne Mohammed, and included among others, Insp Nanan, Sgt Williams and Cpl Ramoutar. A district medical officer ordered the removal of the body and an autopsy is expected to be performed today at the Forensic Science Centre in Port of Spain.
