Police are investigating the murder of a Siparia man, well known to authorities, whose body was discovered outside his home yesterday.
The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Carlos “Veju” Mahabir, an unemployed resident of Shaba Ali Trace, Mendez Village, Siparia.
According to reports, around 11 am, officers from the South Western Division responded to a call regarding a body found at the location.
When PC Maharaj and WPC Graham from the Siparia Police Station arrived at the scene, they found Mahabir lying face down on the ground in a shed outside his house. He had apparent chop wounds. Police said the house had no electricity.
Mahabir’s sister informed the police that she last saw him alive on Monday evening when he went to sign in at the Siparia Police Station. Yesterday morning, around 9 am, she went to check on him and discovered him lying motionless in the shed.
District Medical Officer Dr De Gannes visited the scene and examined the body before ordering its removal to the Forensic Science Centre in St James for an autopsy.
Detectives from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, led by Sgt Forbes, along with SWD’s Insp Pacheco and Sgt Boodoo, also visited the scene to conduct further investigations.
