Political Leader of the Tobago People’s Party (TPP) Farley Augustine says the process for screening potential candidates for the Tobago East and West seats has started.
The one-year-old party held its first internal elections in June to form an executive after being established in 2023.
In a social media video, Augustine welcomed all interested individuals to offer themselves. He said the party was ready and encouraged his members and supporters to prepare for when Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley announces a date for next year’s general election.
Augustine said, "All action groups should be receiving official communication from the executive of the party that details the constitutional steps we ought to take as we vet these candidates and provide the best alternatives to represent the people of Tobago in the national Parliament."
The party was formed following a fallout with Augustine and the political leader of the PDP, Watson Duke, in September 2022. The entire executive resigned from the PDP, moving on to form the TPP in 2023. The fallout occurred months after the PDP’s 14-1 victory against the PNM in the December 6, 2021, THA elections.
