The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) and the National Hurricane Center (NHC) are monitoring an active tropical wave approximately 4,000 kilometers east of the Lesser Antilles. According to the NHC, the system is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms on Thursday afternoon.

However, environmental conditions could become conducive for gradual development of this system by early next week as the disturbance moves westward at around 15 miles per hour (28 kilometers per hour) over the tropical Atlantic.

The NHC has given this system a low chance of tropical cyclone formation (near zero per cent) over the next 48 hours and over the next five days (at 20 per cent).

The Met Office says weather associated with this wave is expected to reach Trinidad and Tobago and the Lesser Antilles next Tuesday evening into early Wednesday morning (28th – 29th June 2022).

In addition, the TTMS is also monitoring a low-level trough that is expected to produce cloudy periods with showers or rain and the chance of thunderstorms on Sunday (26th June 2022).

The Met Office advises the public to keep up-to-date with the latest forecasts, alerts, and information disseminated by the TTMS.
