Amidst the on­go­ing State of Emer­gency (SoE), cit­i­zens who be­lieve they have been wrong­ful­ly searched or de­tained by the T&T Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS) are be­ing re­mind­ed of their right to file com­plaints. 

Ac­cord­ing to in­for­ma­tion re­leased by the TTPS, po­lice of­fi­cers are ex­pect­ed to act pro­fes­sion­al­ly and up­hold their du­ties, even un­der the ex­tra­or­di­nary cir­cum­stances of an SoE.

If some­one sus­pects mis­con­duct or abuse of pow­er by a po­lice of­fi­cer, a re­port can be made of the mat­ter via phone call or What­sApp mes­sage to 736-TTPS, email at soe@ttps.gov.tt or in per­son at the Po­lice Com­plaints Di­vi­sion lo­cat­ed at MAT­CO Build­ing, Hen­ry Street, Port-of-Spain.

Once a com­plaint is re­ceived, the TTPS will ac­knowl­edge it, and an in­ves­ti­ga­tor will be as­signed to han­dle the mat­ter.

Com­plainants who do not re­ceive an ac­knowl­edg­ment af­ter fil­ing are en­cour­aged to fol­low up via the pro­vid­ed phone num­ber.

For fur­ther in­quiries or to ad­dress un­re­solved com­plaints, the TTPS as­sures the pub­lic of their com­mit­ment to main­tain­ing ac­count­abil­i­ty and pro­fes­sion­al­ism dur­ing the SOE.
