The TTPS' "de­tec­tion and solve" rates for the pe­ri­od Sep­tem­ber 2022 to Sep­tem­ber 2023 stand at just 18%.

That’s ac­cord­ing to sta­tis­tics pro­vid­ed by Min­is­ter of Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty, Fitzger­ald Hinds MP, in a writ­ten re­sponse to Par­lia­ment.

Ac­cord­ing to the break­down, the de­tec­tion rate for mur­ders is around 13%, with po­lice solv­ing 83 out of 663 mur­ders for the pe­ri­od.

The de­tec­tion rate for rape, in­cest and oth­er sex­u­al crimes fared on­ly slight­ly bet­ter at 14%, with po­lice solv­ing 120 out of 843 cas­es. 

At on­ly 4% solved, lar­ce­ny of mo­tor ve­hi­cles ap­pears to be the great­est chal­lenge for the TTPS. Of­fi­cers solved just 43 cas­es out of 1,090.
