Two arrested for robbery

Two men have been ar­rest­ed fol­low­ing sev­er­al rob­beries in South Trinidad.
Sher­win Alexan­der, 39, of Pi­o­neer Dri­ve, Sea Lots, and Christo­pher Hoyte, 35, of John Jules Trace, Fyz­abad, were ar­rest­ed on Ju­ly 20th dur­ing an an­ti-crime ex­er­cise.


Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, they were charged with pos­ses­sion of am­mu­ni­tion af­ter a search of their ve­hi­cle re­sult­ed in a quan­ti­ty of am­mu­ni­tion be­ing found.
Fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tions re­vealed that the sus­pects were al­so in­volved in a string of thefts that had been re­port­ed in San Fer­nan­do.

In one in­ci­dent, the vic­tim parked and se­cured his ve­hi­cle at a com­pound in San Fer­nan­do. The vic­tim dis­cov­ered the right rear win­dow had been smashed when he re­turned to the ve­hi­cle.

Sub­se­quent checks re­vealed that a quan­ti­ty of cash was al­so miss­ing.
In an­oth­er in­ci­dent, the vic­tim went to a bank lo­cat­ed in San Fer­nan­do and cashed a cheque. He re­turned to his ve­hi­cle and placed the cash un­der the right sun vi­sor, se­cured the ve­hi­cle and pro­ceed­ed to an­oth­er bank in the area.

He re­turned to the ve­hi­cle lat­er that day and dis­cov­ered the left front win­dow smashed and the cash miss­ing. Po­lice are ask­ing cit­i­zens to be vig­i­lant, es­pe­cial­ly when con­duct­ing bank trans­ac­tions and to re­frain from leav­ing valu­ables, in­clud­ing sums of cash in parked ve­hi­cles.


The two sus­pects were sub­se­quent­ly charged for lar­ce­ny on Ju­ly 24th.
They ap­peared vir­tu­al­ly at the San Fer­nan­do Mag­is­trates’ Court on Ju­ly 27th. Each was placed on bail with a sure­ty of $180,000 for the pos­ses­sion of am­mu­ni­tion charge and bail with a sure­ty of $180,000 for the charge of lar­ce­ny.

The ex­er­cise was spear­head­ed by ASP Ali Mo­hammed, co­or­di­nat­ed by Ag In­sp Teeluck and in­volved Sgt Wilkin­son as well as mem­bers of the Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment (CID), South­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force (SDTF) and San Fer­nan­do Po­lice Sta­tion.
