Two men have been arrested following several robberies in South Trinidad.
Sherwin Alexander, 39, of Pioneer Drive, Sea Lots, and Christopher Hoyte, 35, of John Jules Trace, Fyzabad, were arrested on July 20th during an anti-crime exercise.
According to police reports, they were charged with possession of ammunition after a search of their vehicle resulted in a quantity of ammunition being found.
Further investigations revealed that the suspects were also involved in a string of thefts that had been reported in San Fernando.
In one incident, the victim parked and secured his vehicle at a compound in San Fernando. The victim discovered the right rear window had been smashed when he returned to the vehicle.
Subsequent checks revealed that a quantity of cash was also missing.
In another incident, the victim went to a bank located in San Fernando and cashed a cheque. He returned to his vehicle and placed the cash under the right sun visor, secured the vehicle and proceeded to another bank in the area.
He returned to the vehicle later that day and discovered the left front window smashed and the cash missing. Police are asking citizens to be vigilant, especially when conducting bank transactions and to refrain from leaving valuables, including sums of cash in parked vehicles.
The two suspects were subsequently charged for larceny on July 24th.
They appeared virtually at the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court on July 27th. Each was placed on bail with a surety of $180,000 for the possession of ammunition charge and bail with a surety of $180,000 for the charge of larceny.
The exercise was spearheaded by ASP Ali Mohammed, coordinated by Ag Insp Teeluck and involved Sgt Wilkinson as well as members of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Southern Division Task Force (SDTF) and San Fernando Police Station.
