A La Romaine labourer is in dire need of six pints of blood after he and a friend were injured in a drive-by shooting on Saturday night.
Relatives said Ricardo Barclay, 28, of Charles Street, La Romaine, remains in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit of the San Fernando General Hospital after a single gunshot pierced vital organs. His friend, Gabre Cordner, 25, also of La Romaine, was being treated for gunshot wounds to his chest, abdomen and leg.
According to a report, the men were sitting on the roadside outside Barclay’s house when a silver Nissan Tiida pulled alongside them and a gunman opened fire on them. Witnesses said Barclay was struck in the hip and pretended to be dead for a while. Cordner was hit several times, but manage to run away from the gunmen. The car sped off, leaving both men behind. Relatives said Barclay and Cordner were taking a drink on the roadside when the car pulled up in front of them.
Although Barclay pretended to be dead, he eventually passed out because he was losing blood quickly. San Fernando police responded and they took the injured men to the hospital for emergency treatment. A search was made throughout the community for the gunman and the car, but they were not found up to yesterday evening. Police believe Cordner was the target and they said he is known to them.
Residents said the recent shootings in the area were the result of a turf war, which was triggered since the slaying of well-known drug lord Gary Mc Clarence last September.
