A shoot­ing in­ci­dent around 4.30 pm near the St James Mar­ket has left one man dead and three peo­ple in­jured, as the an­nu­al Car­ni­val cel­e­bra­tions wind down here.

The in­ci­dent took place among spec­ta­tors and Car­ni­val mas­quer­aders and came just hours af­ter act­ing Po­lice Com­mis­sion­er Ju­nior Ben­jamin had re­port­ed an in­ci­dent-free Car­ni­val.

A sus­pect has been held in con­nec­tion with the at­tack.

The shoot­ing forced the shut­down of Car­ni­val cel­e­bra­tions in the area, as po­lice cor­doned off the scene to con­duct in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
