The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) yesterday said a supply had been restored to some parts of Central-Couva South after a downhole mechanical issue was rectified.
In a release yesterday, in response to a letter issued by Couva South MP Rudranath Indarsingh regarding a lack of a proper water supply to customers in parts of Couva South, WASA confirmed there had been an issue with the supply.
It said areas in the Couva South constituency, which are supplied by the Caroni system, were being affected by a a drop in production at the Freeport Water Works, due in part to reduced production from the Freeport Well #15, which recently experienced a downhole mechanical issue.
“Remedial works were undertaken on this well on January 28, which included the installation of a new well motor, and additional mechanical works that were completed on Friday. Well #15 was returned to operation on Saturday 4th February, 2023,” WASA said.
“This will facilitate a regularised supply to Calcutta #1, #2 and #3, in accordance with established water supply schedules. Pipe-borne water activated to ensure these areas were serviced between February 3 and 4,” it added.
With the issues addressed, WASA said the affected customers were to receive a pipe-borne supply between yesterday and today.
It also noted that the California and Windsor Park areas were also experiencing low pressure due to technical issues. The Authority noted that it is aware of the challenges and assured a robust water trucking service has been established to augment the shortfall in supply where needed.
It advised customers to request truckborne supplies through the following self-service options:
Use of the mobile WASA Services App
Use of the Customer Portal available on the Authority’s website: www.wasa.gov.tt
WASA Home page
Alternatively, customers requiring direct assistance or further information can contact WASA’s Customer Call Centre toll free at 800-4420/4426.
WASA also advised customers in parts of Cascade and Belmont served by the Coblentz Booster that it was working on a mechanical problem impacting operations at the facility.
It said the repair works are expected to be completed by Wednesday. Areas affected include Upper Cascade and Upper Belmont.
