Sixteen persons were arrested for various offences—including murder and rape—during an anti-crime exercise in the Northern Division this morning.
In addition to murder, the other offences of those arrested included: possession of firearms and ammunition; possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking; gang-related enquiries; and an outstanding warrant for rape.
Official police reports indicate that three firearms and a quantity of ammunition were seized after the execution of several search warrants, namely:
• One (1) AR rifle with one (1) magazine containing 53 rounds of 5.56 ammunition;
• One (1) Taurus Pistol with six (6) rounds of .45 ammunition and six (6) rounds of 9mm ammunition; and
• One (1) Glock 19 pistol with one (1) drop barrel magazine and one (1) selector together with 27 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
A quantity of cocaine and cannabis also was seized.
The anti-crime initiative was led by Snr Supt Sheldon David, and coordinated by ASP Gyan and Insp Pitt. It was spearheaded by Sgt La Pierre, Ag/Cpl Forde, Ag/Cpl Superville, PCs John, Ramdass, Gaffoor, Cordrington, and Persad.
The operation included other members of the Northern Division Task Force (NDTF) West; and personnel from the St Joseph Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headed by Insp Hernandez and Sgt Thomas, as well as Constable Persad from the Tunapuna Process Section and Canine Branch.
Investigations are ongoing.
