Bachu lifts South to U-15 Classic title

San­jiv Bachu’s five-wick­et haul led South to a 112-run vic­to­ry against North, in the T&T Crick­et Board Un­der-15 North-South Clas­sic at the Na­tion­al Crick­et Cen­ter in Cou­va, on Thurs­day.

Af­ter win­ning the toss and elect­ing to bat first, South open­ers Reyad Jerome and Za­kariyya Mo­hammed shared an 88-run open part­ner­ship. Be­fore Josi­ah Nicholls picked up the wick­et of Mo­hammed for 25 runs.

Short­ly af­ter, Jerome de­part­ed as he was dis­missed by Bachu for a top score of 44 runs from 57 de­liv­er­ies, smash­ing sev­en bound­aries. But Sachin Nand­lal and Zane Maraj did not waste time at the crease, fol­low­ing through with a 71-run part­ner­ship. Maraj scored 39 from 44 balls, in­clu­sive of six bound­aries. The South team end­ed on 232 all out in 44.4 overs.

Bachu end­ed with fig­ures of five for 25 in sev­en overs.

In chas­ing a tar­get of 233, Justin Pam­phille's ear­ly dis­missal for five runs did not help the North side. Josi­ah Roberts and Bri­an Har­richa­ran were able to share a very small part­ner­ship of 10 runs be­fore Aaden Owen claimed the wick­et of Har­richa­ran.

Tariq Richards and Roberts put up a fight, with a 41-run part­ner­ship. Richards top-scored 47 runs from 82 de­liv­er­ies for the North team, hit­ting one max­i­mum and four oth­er bound­aries.

Un­for­tu­nate­ly, wick­ets con­tin­ued to drop for the North side, falling short to 120 all out in 37.4 overs. Ganesh Gob­in picked up two wick­ets for four runs, in­clud­ing a maid­en over in his short two overs.

T&T South Clas­sic reigned vic­to­ri­ous by 112 runs, col­lect­ing the prize as the first-placed team. The ‘Play­er of the Match’ and the ‘Best Bowler’ award went to Bachu for his ex­cel­lent bowl­ing fig­ures. Tariq Richard re­ceived a tro­phy for the best bats­man award, scor­ing 47 from 83 de­liv­er­ies. Mean­while, North Zone was named the sec­ond-placed team.
