Nigel Hitlal had a solid match all round to lead Hit List to its third straight win from as many matches when they beat D’Crushers to top Group B of the Harvard Sports Club April Fest Windball (8 overs) Cricket Tournament on Saturday last.
D’Crushers had first turn at the crease and were restricted to 26 runs all out in their allotted eight overs at the crease, with Surindra Bunsee hitting a top score of six runs, while Kerwin Pierre picked up two wickets for five runs from two overs, and Perry Jagan and Hitlal one wicket for two runs each.
Hitlal then led the Hit List run chase with nine runs as they reached their target of 27 for the loss of six wickets in seven overs, while Marlon Bhim chipped in with five runs, despite Randie Bedassie and Adesh Ramsumair snatching a wicket each for D’Crushers for three runs.
With the win, Hit List topped Group B with a maximum of nine points and was joined in the main draw knockout by runner-up D’Crushers, who entered the match winners of the first two matches as well, covering Valdez Youths and Spoilers.
In Group A, Universal Flippers won by default from D’Drinks Spots, as both teams ended with 2-1 records and six points each to advance to the main draw knockout, ahead of defending champion Not Jus Fun via superior net run rates.
In Group C, Friends 4 Life defeated Travellers by 5 wickets to snatch the second spot in the three-team pool and a main draw spot as well.
Batting first, Travellers posted a challenging total of 47 runs for the loss of eight wickets thanks to Shaquille Hingwan with a top score of 13 and Jermi Manswell with 10, while Sunil Boodram picked up two wickets for four runs, and Isaiah Jagram one for four.
In reply, Friends 4 Life got to their target of 48 for the loss of 5 wickets in 7.3 overs, led by man of the match Cassis Muhammad, who scored 15 not out, and Juan Carlos Narine, who scored nine.
The trio of defending champion Not Jus Fun, Valdez Youths and Travellers will contest the playoffs this Saturday to determine the final two qualifiers for the quarterfinals, which will bowl off on May 23.
