For the sec­ond time this sea­son, the Lone Star Con­fer­ence named T&T se­nior women's team Asha James of West Texas A&M its women's foot­ball "Of­fen­sive Play­er of the Week". James led the La­dy Buffs to a 1-0-1 week to im­prove to 8-1-1 on the sea­son.

The Canaan, To­ba­go-born 22-year-old James was in­stru­men­tal in the La­dy Buffs' 3-2 win over UT Tyler on Sat­ur­day as WT im­proved to 8-1-1 on the sea­son, plac­ing two of her three shots on goal, in­clud­ing her game-ty­ing strike off a cor­ner kick in the 58th minute. The Trinida­di­an mid­field­er found Maliyah Men­doza in the 66th minute to pro­vide the game-win­ner on an­oth­er set piece from the cor­ner.

James' 21 points in 10 match­es rank sec­ond for the La­dy Buffs this sea­son, sit­ting be­hind Maria-Frances Ser­rant's 26.

On Sat­ur­day last at their home field in Canyon, Texas, the tenth-ranked La­dy Buffs of West Texas A&M used a pair of sec­ond half goals to de­feat the UT Tyler Pa­tri­ots 3-2 to im­prove to 2-1-1 in the Lone Star Con­fer­ence (LSC) while UT Tyler fell to 6-2-2 over­all, and 1-2-2 in the LSC.

The Pa­tri­ots came out of swing­ing in the first half reg­is­ter­ing the game's first free kick in the fourth minute. On that kick, Jor­dan Col­bert snuck the ball through the crowd­ed 18-yard box and past Rea­gan Hee­lan for a 1-0 lead.

How­ev­er, the La­dy Buffs wast­ed no time in lev­el­ling the score with Maliyah Men­doza find­ing T&T se­nior women's team strik­er Maria-Frances Ser­rant on a cross in­to the cen­tre of the box, her 12th goal in ten match­es.

In the sec­ond half, UT Tyler struck first again in the 54th minute, when an ini­tial shot by Syd­nee Gar­ner got blocked by a WT de­fend­er with Faith Ad­je scor­ing the fol­low-up at­tempt.

The La­dy Buffs re­spond­ed quick­ly once more off a cor­ner kick as James sent in a ball to­wards her near post where it bounced off a Pa­tri­ots' de­fend­er and in­to the back of the net. The de­cid­ing goal came off the foot of Men­doza with 24 min­utes re­main­ing, as James' sent a pass in­to the box off a cor­ner kick, the ball went un­touched and dropped to the feet of Men­doza on the back post for an easy fin­ish.

The La­dy Buffs re­turn to ac­tion with a home con­test against No 24 An­ge­lo State.
