LAUDERHILL – Wet conditions caused by rain forced a no-result between Nepal and Sri Lanka in the ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup on Tuesday in the United States.

The two teams were set to contest their Group D match under the lights at Central Broward Regional Park in the American city of Lauderhill in the state of Florida, but heavy rains forced an abandonment without the toss being spun and a ball bowled.

The result meant that the chances of both teams reaching the Super Eight quarterfinal stage of the tournament took a big hit, and they will require miraculous permutations to occur for them to beat the odds.

Weather forecasts for the three remaining fixtures at the venue between co-hosts United States and Ireland on Friday, Canada and India on Saturday, and Ireland and Pakistan on Sunday – all Group A matches – do not look promising either.

Nepal are fourth in the group table on one point from two matches, having lost their previous game against The Netherlands, while Sri Lanka also has one point from three matches, but they are rock bottom due to net run rate, following losses in their first two matches against Bangladesh and South Africa.

Nepal flies to the Caribbean for their remaining two group matches against the South Africans on Friday and Bangladesh on Sunday – both matches under the newly installed floodlights at the Arnos Vale Cricket Ground in St Vincent, while Sri Lanka flies to St Lucia for their final group match against the Netherlands on Sunday under the lights at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground.
