North exacted revenge over South in the T&T Cricket Board's (TTCB) North-South Under-19 Classic, 24 hours after South took the U-17 edition.
The North team emerged with a seven-wicket win at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva, on Tuesday.
A wonderful bowling performance from Abdur Rahman Juman broke the back of South’s top order. The pacer had a burst of 3 for 25 from five overs, as he and Joshua E James reduced South to 33 for 4 in 7.2 overs, before Andrew Rambarran, Vasant Singh and Abdullah Cambridge continued the demolition job on South.
South’s opener, Riyaad Mohammed, who is enjoying a stellar Secondary Schools season scored 21 off 19, apparently set himself up for this evening’s Intercol T20 final for Presentation College San Fernando.
North did not get the scores from Nick Ramlal (1), skipper Kyle Kissoondath (0), and Jacen Agard (5) as they all fell to the opening bowlers.
Luke Ali assumed the responsibility in the middle order as he top-scored with 23 at a strike rate of five. But having the job of repairing, one will forgive him and even expect him to bat cautiously in his 45-ball knock.
He was supported by Fareez Ali, whose runs in the recently concluded U-17 Cup would certainly have been useful, made only 11. But his wicket brought in Ronillster Perreira who steered the innings past 100 as he scored 18 not out from 41 balls.
South were eventually skittled out for 113, with Cambridge (3-14) and Juman (3-25) the main bowlers.
North did not have too many issues in their reply. Although fast bowler Liam Mamchan made things a bit tricky for the Northerners. Kavir Boodoosingh was the first to go, caught by Perreira for five, then Mamchan removed star batter Kyle Ramdoo, a batsman he knows quite well. And just like the Masqueraders versus Hummingbirds match in the TTCB U-19 Cup almost a month ago, Mamchan removed his Premiership U-19 and Naparima (albeit brief) teammate for a low score.
Despite the early setback, Andrew Rambaran went on to score 47 not out from 63 balls and Sachin Emrit scored 21 from 44 to make sure that North got over the line in 27.2 overs.
Mamchan was South’s best bowler with 2 for 16, while Ricardo Chase got the other wicket to finish with 1 for 16.
North was able to add the U-19 title to the Senior Classic (First-Class) won in January while South could not add to the U-15 and U-17 titles, it won in March and Monday.
Later, Cambridge was named the best bowler, while Juman was adjudged the "Man of the Match".
