T&T's Jereem Richards placed third in the men's 200 metres at the Pure Athletics Spring Invitational at the National Training Centre in Clermont, Florida in the United States on Sunday.
The 2018 Commonwealth 200m champion of the host club, Pure Athletics, clocked 20.37 seconds wind-assisted (2.1), to win section two of the timed finals to finish behind eventual winner Erriyon Knighton of Adidas, who topped section three in 20.31 (1.6) and section one winner Pure Athletics' Josephus Lyles, who had the same time as Richards 20.37 but with less wind assistance (1.6).
Richards' Pure and Athletics clubmate, Machel Cedenio, raced in section two and was a far-off second in 20.84 (1.7) behind Knighton, to place sixth overall while another local sprinter Kyle Greaux finished eighth, crossing fourth in section one with a 20.90-clocking.
Richards warmed up for the half-lap event racing in the 100m dash earlier. He placed second in heat two in the preliminary rounds in 10.27 (2.9) to advance with the third fastest time but did not compete in the timed finals.
In the women's version of the 100m dash, two T&T athletes competed including Kai Selvon of Puma MVP International and Khalifa St Fort of Pure Athletics.
Both local sprinters reached the timed finals but only St Fort faced the starter and placed seventh overall in 11.76 (1.1), crossing second in section two. This after progressing with the 11th fastest time of 11.90 from the preliminary heats. Selvon's time of 11.77 (-0.2) saw her move on with the eighth quickest time but she did compete in the finals.
Hurdler Badal tops 100m hurdles in Colorado
Tamia Badal ran a season's best to win the women's 100m hurdles event at the Doug Max Invitational held at the Colorado State University Jack Christiansen Track in Fort Collins, Colorado on Saturday.
University of Colorado freshman claimed the top spot with a 14.01-clocking (1.0).
At the Rider 5-way Track and Field meet in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, Ako Hislop of Fairleigh Dickinson placed seventh in the 400m. The sophomore clocked 54.56.
Purdue freshman Naomi Campbell competed in three events at the B1G North Florida Invitational in Iowa City on the weekend but did not get the success she had hoped for.
She placed 18th in both the women's 100m with 11.94 (3.7) and 200m with 24.81 (0.4) and just missed out on a medal in the 4x100m relay. She made the third handover to help her team cross fourth in section one and overall in 45.83.
Stanisclaus shines on the NJCAA circuit
T&T's Ayla Stanisclaus completed the sprint double at the WTAMU Joe Meaker Classic and Multi meet held at the West Texas A&M University in Amarillo, Texas in the United States on the weekend.
The New Mexico Junior College (JC) freshman won the women's 100 metres dash in a time of 11.24 (1.6) and then returned to the track later to place first with 23.37 in the 200m with some assistance from the wind (2.2).
On the men's side, T&T had several sprinters competed at the Texas meet and all five New Mexico JC freshmen raced in the 100m dash. However, it was only Tyrell Edwards getting success as he placed third with 10.29 (2.8).
He schoolmates Onil Mitchell (10.68) and Timothy Fredericks (10.94), placed 11th and 21st, respectively while fellow sprinters Jalen Purcell and Aaron Brewster unfortunately both false-started.
Purcell was able to redeem himself in the 200m, finishing third with 20.82 (1.5), Fredericks placed 21st with 22.14 (2.8) and Mitchell, did not finish the race.
Edwards, Purcell and Brewster were among the New Mexico JC's quartet that won gold in the 4x100m relay with 39.56.
Purcell also copped a silver in the 4x400 with his unit clocking 3:10.09 in the final.
On Friday, South Plains freshman duo Justin Guy and Camille Lewis were dominant form picking up gold in their respective events at the David Noble Relays in San Angelo, Texas.
Guy won the men's 110m hurdles with 13.96 (2.5). This after advancing with the fastest qualifying time of 14.20 (3.7) in the preliminaries.
Lewis had similar success in the women's 400m hurdles, progressing with fastest time (1:05.10) in the preliminary round before reaching the top of the podium with 1:03.32.
She picked her second gold, running the anchor leg for South Plains in the 4x400m relay to place first with 3:52.06.
At the Bethel College Loren Reusser Invitational in Kansas, Judah Taylor, a Butler Community College freshman, placed 13th (21.81) in the men's 200m on Saturday.
