MANCHESTER – Despite missing a large chunk of the season due to injury, Jamaican and Manchester City forward Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw has finished tied for the most goals in the Women’s Super League (WSL) in England.
In what was a largely disappointing season for City, where they failed to win a title and finished fourth in the WSL, failing to qualify for the Champions League, Shaw won the Golden Boot after ending the season with 12 goals after appearing in 14 matches, the same as Arsenal’s Alessia Russo, who played in 21 matches.
It marked the second consecutive year that the 28-year-old Shaw emerged as the top goal scorer in the WSL, following her sensational performance last year where she scored 21 goals in 18 matches.
Shaw, City’s all-time leading goal scorer, set a new WSL record for most hat-tricks scored of all-time when she plundered a treble in a 4-0 win over Spurs at the Etihad Stadium.
It represented her sixth in total in the division which extended her stellar record against the north Londoners.
She then hit five more in the top-flight before picking up an injury in the Subway League Cup final meeting with Chelsea which ended her season early.
