St Joseph’s Convent, St Joseph remains on course for another triple championship in the Under-16, U-14 and Girls Open divisions of the Secondary Schools Volleyball League but their respective chase has been put on hold due to the postponement of matches until after the Carnival Festivities.
The finals in both the boys and girls divisions were carded for today at the National Cycling Velodrome, Centre Court in Balmain, Couva but have been postponed to a tentative March 7-date.
On Wednesday at the same venue, St Joseph's swept the U-16s round-robin round for a perfect 3-0 record. The defending champion made light work of South East Port-of-Spain (SEPOS), defeating them 15-6, 15-8 as well as ASJA Girls, San Fernando (15-6, 15-7) and Arima Central (15-3, 15-6) to secure the top place in Group B and book an automatic spot in the semifinals.
However, due to time constraints, the semifinals had to be postponed, to a date to be announced. St Joseph's Convent is carded to meet St George's College which defeated Arima, 15-8, 16-14 in the cross-over quarterfinals.
The International School of Port-of-Spain (ISPS) clinched the other automatic semifinal position after topping Group A, also playing unbeaten. ISPS got wins against Iere High (15-12, 15-11), St Joseph's Convent, Port-of-Spain (15-6 15-6) and St George's College (15-8, 15-8) and Holy Faith Convent Penal (15-12, 15-8) to set up a meeting with SEPOS in the semifinal. SEPOS got the better of Iere High, 15-8, 15-6, in the quarterfinal round.
On Tuesday, the U-14 finalists were determined with St Joseph's Convent (St Joseph) and ISPS, the two teams left standing at the end of the day. Both teams played on undefeated to earn a meeting in the title match.
St Joseph's outplayed St George's (15-2, 15-5) SEPOS (10-15, 15-10, 15-11) and Holy Faith (15-8, 15-4) to top Group A before taking Bishop Anstey, 15-9, 13-15, 15-11 in the semifinals.
In Group B, ISPS' wins came against ASJA (15-2, 15-5), Bishop Anstey (15-9, 15-8) and Chaguanas North (15-8,15-6) in the preliminary round-robin stage then over SEPOS in the semifinals, winning 15-12, 15-6.
In the Girls Open final, St Joseph's Convent (St Joseph) will also seek to defend its title against ISPS.
