T&T’s men’s hockey team remained perfect at the Pan American Challenge Tournament with a 9-0 demolition of Guatemala at the Andres Avelino Caceres Sports Complex in Lima, Peru, on Saturday.
It was a statement win for the senior men as the team all but secured its advancement to yet another Pan American Cup.
Teague Marcano scored his third and fourth goals of the challenge to give T&T a 2-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. He added another in the second quarter his hat-trick coming from a trio of penalty corners.
T&T then piled on more misery on “Los Chapines” in the third stanza, applying more pressure and consolidating their lead with a five-goal flurry.
Nicholas Grant added his name to the list of scorers, Jovan Wren picked up a brace from a pair of penalty corners, Sheldon De Lisle got his, and Marcano found the back of the goal for his fourth of the match and sixth of the tournament.
Captain Jordan Vieira scored the final goal to seal the drubbing as T&T continued its ominous form in South America.
T&T is yet to concede a goal over two matches after a Teague Marcano double gave the Calypso Stickmen a 2-0 win over hosts Peru.
T&T sits atop the standings on a full three points, Guatemala is second on three having beaten Paraguay 2-1 in their opening match of the round-robin tourney, Paraguay and Peru are without a point to their credit, the former is third by virtue of a better goal difference.
The senior men’s national team was scheduled to face Paraguay this morning and are keen on finishing the four-team tournament unbeaten.
The top two teams from the 2024 Pan American Challenge Tournament will advance to next year’s Pan American Cup which will be hosted in Montevideo, Uruguay in September.
