T&TOC uses marathon as Olympic fundraiser

For the sixth year, the T&T Olympic Com­mit­tee (TTOC) will part­ner with the T&T In­ter­na­tion­al Marathon (TTIM) and will par­tic­i­pate in the 38th edi­tion of the race to raise aware­ness and fund­ing for the or­gan­i­sa­tion's Team TTO #10golds24 ath­lete wel­fare and prepa­ra­tion fund.

The 26.2-mile race, which is the fea­ture event in the Marathon Fes­ti­val of Events, will take place on Sun­day, start­ing at St Mary's Junc­tion in Freeport and end­ing at White­hall, Queen's Park Sa­van­nah in Port-of-Spain.

The TeamT­TO #10golds24 " marathon walk" con­tin­gent will be sent on their way by the starter at 3.30 am. Some of the reg­is­tered par­tic­i­pants sup­port­ing the TTOC Team TTO #10golds24 ath­lete wel­fare and prepa­ra­tion fund are TTOC pres­i­dent Bri­an Lewis, Sen­a­tor Clarence Ramb­harat, Min­is­ter of Agri­cul­ture, Lands and Fish­eries, As­sem­bly­man Jo­mo Pitt, Sec­re­tary of Sport and Youth Af­fairs To­ba­go House Of As­sem­bly (THA), Coun­cil­lor Samuel Sankar, Nigel M Bap­tiste, Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor Re­pub­lic Bank Ltd and pres­i­dent and chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer Re­pub­lic Fi­nan­cial Hold­ings Ltd, Roger Sant, An­dre Bap­tiste, Tony Lee, Mark Pouchet, Cap­tain Andy Cheekes (Caribbean Air­lines) and Com­man­der Don Po­lo-Act­ing Com­mand­ing Of­fi­cer Coast Guard and Cur­tis Nero (Head of Fi­nance Unit, CAR­DI).

Al­so, the TTOC Team TTO reg­is­tered par­tic­i­pants will be ac­com­pa­nied by 18 mem­bers of the coast guard.

The unit has al­so reg­is­tered two 10-mem­ber teams for the first-ever T&T In­ter­na­tion­al Mil­i­tary Chal­lenge - each mem­ber of the team will car­ry a 20lb back­pack and the time tak­en to de­ter­mine the win­ner of the mil­i­tary chal­lenge is that of the last team mem­ber to cross the fin­ish line.

A num­ber of in­di­vid­u­als in­clud­ing ath­letes, sports ad­min­is­tra­tors and me­dia per­son­al­i­ties have com­mit­ted to join the "marathon walk " along the jour­ney.

TTOC as­sis­tant sec­re­tary gen­er­al Na­dine Khan, Dr Rudy Ram­sawak, Lovie San­tana, Sta­cy San­tana and Rheeza Grant will make up the TTOC sup­port and as­sis­tance team while the coast guard will al­so pro­vide as­sis­tance along the route.

The Marathon Fes­ti­val be­gins to­day with the TTIM Kiss Na­tion­al 5k from 4 pm.
